Summer of change
With a switch to a new computer this spring 2017, I’m exploring new possibilities for upgraded software. However, I do enjoy good old watercolor, pen and ink, and pencil. I’ve been adding general sketches to my gallery on the front. I hope you enjoy them.

Where has the time gone?
November 2016: Winter is finally settling in around Wisconsin and I can’t believe where the time has gone. It’s been an interesting year with more work — and good feedback — on my manuscripts as well as my illustrations. The time I got to spend at the SCBWI Wisconsin fall conference at Green Lake was enlightening and worthwhile. Looking forward to exciting tomorrows.

12×12 a good Challenge
January 2016: I’m back in Julie Hedlund’s 12×12 Challenge, writing or revising a picture book manuscript each month. This time I am in the Gold category which allows submissions to a few editors and agents. Looking forward to what this year will bring.

Busy, busy, busy
Spring 2015: It’s so important to take advantage of the learning opportunities available to us. I recently completed participation in the online Dummy Workshop offered by SCBWI Mid-South. The thoughtful and encouraging comments from Alyson Heller, children’s book editor with S&S/Aladdin, have allowed me to improve one of my PB manuscripts. The 12×12 Challenge is pushing me to write or revise at least one manuscript a month. It is definitely keeping me on track. In addition, a Wisconsin SCBWI-sponsored workshop with experts from the School of Visual Storytelling was fun and informative.

2014 illustration mentee
2014: Thank you to Ingrid Kallick. She was my illustration mentor for 2014 and gave generously of her time and expertise. The year-long arrangement was provided by SCBWI-Wisconsin.

Overture exhibit
2012: One of my illustration pieces was included in “The Wild Wood of the Imagination,” an exhibit by Wisconsin members of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, at the Overture Center in Madison, WI. The exhibit ran in 2012. It was an honor to be part of the talented Wisconsin SCBWI illustrators group.
